Being an executive coach is some of the most fulfilling work I’ve ever done. When someone is ready to make changes and allows me to guide them it feels like a real privilege to walk alongside them. I’m told I’m a good listener, non-judgemental and quickly able to get below the surface of what’s going on.
Working in recruitment was a good grounding for coaching. Many of my coaching clients are Fundraisers and Development professionals in the Cultural and Education sectors who I know from my days at Richmond Associates, the global executive search company that I founded in April1999 and ran until March 2017 when I sustained a life-changing injury.
After a year of multiple operations, amazing physiotherapy and the support of loved ones, I finally got back on my feet. But I didn’t just learn to walk again: I learnt to reflect, to breathe and to appreciate the important things in life. Going back to run Richmond Associates wasn’t really an option for me, I passed the baton to the rest of the team and began the slow process of changing direction. I took a counselling course followed by a Certificate in Coaching and Professional Development accredited by The Tavistock Institute HR. I’ve been coaching for over 5 years and it feels like I’ve found my metier – at last!
